ADHD, executive function, working memory - anyone who works in education long enough will come across these terms. As someone who has worked in learning support for 20 years, I thought I had a fairly good understanding of them too. However, participating in the Executive Function Online Summit this weekend is broadening and deepening my understanding in a way that I know is going to make me once again reconsider my approach to supporting students with issues in these areas.
For example, last term I found myself nodding along to comments by teachers talking about students as being 'just lazy' instead of challenging this perception.
Being truly committed to inclusive education is tiring and challenging and requires us to constantly examine our own prejudices.
